Last Monday I did something I had not done in twenty or thirty years: I ate a Big Mac.
Once there was a time when I consumed them regularly. But that was when I was young…and foolish…and skinny. I ate the Big Mac in honor of its 50th anniversary…and because it was invented in the Pittsburgh area – in a McDonald’s franchise in Ross Township. When I read all that in an article, well, I decided I just had to celebrate. So I ate a Big Mac.
Oh my, there is so much more to celebrate in the ministry of Bethany! Assisted by a grant of $7,500 from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Fund, a dedicated work crew from Bethany is spending this week rehabbing a house in Bethel Park. The devastation is massive. The task will be much bigger and longer than a week’s work.
The family’s needs go so much deeper than the flood. Just one example: their 3-year-old daughter just finished a round of chemotherapy. And the mother’s response after just one day of work by our team was deeply moving: “God bless you and everyone [from Bethany], You are truly God’s angels. I’m so grateful I could cry…Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Celebrate in the rubble of a flood? Oh Yes…when we can serve and love with the heart of Jesus! You may contact Caroline Poiche to see how you can help or pray.
AND…we are celebrating the news from our Associate Pastor Nominating Committee. They will be presenting a candidate about whom they are very excited! On Saturday, August 18, you can meet this candidate at one of two events: a breakfast and coffee Open House from 9-11 AM or a Meet and Greet Open House from 3-6 PM – both at the church.
On Sunday August 19, the candidate will preach at our one worship service of the day 9:30 AM. Following the service, we will conduct a congregational meeting to vote on calling this person to be our Associate Pastor for Youth and Discipleship.
Helping local flood victims in a long-term way in the love of Jesus.
Meeting our Associate Pastor Candidate, hearing the candidate preach, voting on God’s call regarding the candidate.
And then gathering in Chartiers Park on August 26 for Worship and Picnic in the Park…
Now that’s something to celebrate!
It makes me want to have another Big M…Oh never mind.
See you this Sunday at our regular Summer Worship Times: 8:15 AM, 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM,
