Glimpses of Grace
Last weekend I had the privilege of visiting our former Associate Pastor Robbie Ytterberg and his family in their new setting in Toms River, New Jersey.
I brought your warmest greetings to them and our prayers for their life and ministry in their new setting. I want you to know they are doing very well. Wesley, for whom we have been praying, is doing much better; and the girls, Ella and Lianna, are adjusting well to their new setting. Please pray for Robbie and Abby as they are still house hunting.
The church is very excited to have Robbie as their Sr. Pastor. Their words to me were very warm and affirming of Robbie.
The Service of Installation took place in the afternoon, and I had the privilege of giving your greetings to the congregation and preaching the message: “You are the light of the world…Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and give glory to your father in heaven.” I told them stories of how I have seen that light shining in the people around me, in you, in this body of Christ called Bethany. I held up glow sticks and reminded us all that we glow with Christ’s light only as we let him bend us and stretch us. Each worshipper got a glow stick as they left worship. (You may recall this theme from a few weeks ago.) Then after a few goodbyes it was time to head back to Pittsburgh and family…and you.
I share this with you for several reasons:
- we have loved and blessed a pastor and family, and they know it. We have made an impact. You have made an impact.
- we are part of a much bigger picture than we can ever imagine, God working in us and our surroundings and in places like Toms River, New Jersey.
- we have a great future ahead of us, a God-shaped future.
- in fact, we are having a great, God-shaped present! I heard that things went very well in our ministries through the weekend and in the worship services.
The light of Christ was shining in Toms River – and in Bridgeville and the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
So my words to the folks there are my words to us right here, to us as the body of Christ. Actually…they are Jesus’ words, straight from the Light of the world himself: “You are the light of the world…Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and give glory to your father in heaven.”
May we shine with the light of Jesus in who we are, what we say and do, how we love and serve.
Oh yes, it is good to be home!
Blessings in the Lord,
